It seems to me that the whole point of selling the site would just be selling the domain name. I mean...wouldn't just be cheaper to set up RobCNinjas.com? Something tells me this is a prank, or the worlds most expensive redirect page.

He's not selling just the domain name. He's selling the rights to ALL videos, music, all that shit. This new owner will add his own stuff along with the old MMC shit and make hella money off it if it's marketed right. I've talked to brandon and he's quite serious about this. He won't tell me how much he sold it for but I am sure it's a fat amount. Even if it wasn't a huge amount, I'm sure he just wants the stress associated with upkeep for this site gone.
I think that MMC is at where I can finally understand how to operate. New management would change things to fit his/her preferences.

Will this new guy add advertisements to the site/forums, as a means to make an extra buck?

If he was smart. He bought it to make money, and you can't make money by buying a site and NOT have advertising.
:agreed: I understand that, but it is one of the few sites I can go to without pop-ups.

wtf brandon? Why do this, if you really wanted to sell MMC, then why not to someone who is actually in it and not just a fan. I'm not saying that this new owner is going to be some kind of jerk, but I have a feeling that everything we have done for the past 3 years now wont even matter after he takes over.

Because I'm pretty sure Jared couldn't match the offer....

Maybe you dont understand.
I was not even approached. I didnt get an offer, a say, a memo, anything.
I would be willing to do alot more than you know to keep MILKMYCOW.COM. Brandon sold all of our videos, many of which were my own ideas, that had me in them, a few with me only, to some guy for money? Sure, brandon owns MMC domain, and MMC the site, but the videos? I think those are all of our property! How is brandon going to sell our fun times, our friendship, to some guy, for a price that he dosent even have the deceny to tell us!
Putting a price on MMC is like putting a price on your first kiss, your first bike ride, your best friend. MMC was not just a site. It was an idea, a community, a group of friends, and most of all friendship. How could someone put a price on that!
If I owned MMC I would not sell for anything less than udderly ridiclous, (50,000+), and even if I did, I would tell everyone before hand, get opinions, at LEAST give a cut of the money to the people that helped me make the site why it was worth that much, or at least, take everyone out to dinner to say the final goodbyes, talk about the good ol' times, etc..
So much is in the dark. Maybe this new guy will be cool as shit. Maybe he has a master plan that I would like. Maybe he wants to merge his site with ours instead of the other way around.
If hes just buying MMC to be a re-direct page, when hes done using it for that, I will gladly buy back the physical domain name alone for 10X what it is worth.

Brandon is not selling his friends and his good times. If a site is sold then the SITE is sold, perhaps the content is sold as well...but the good times and the friends and the memories are not sold along with it. That is ridiculous.
Now about the whole 'cutting people in on the deal' thing is also ridiculous. It is Brandon's site, nobody elses. If you go to the same restraunt for four years, you go every single weekend without fail...and they sell that restraunt and it becomes a parking lot then you nor nobody else who ate there deserve any kind of money or 'cut' of the profits.
You ask how you can put a price on MMC...well you talk of MMC as your LIFE, nobody can put a price on that. Your life is priceless, it cannot be bought or sold. The site can be though. It can be bought and sold 10 times over, that will not affect your past or your life or your memories and friends and experiences...those are yours to keep forever.
You buy a car. You drive that car and get as much happiness and driving experience and enjoyment out of that car. Then you sell the car for as much as you can get out of it and move on to something different, perhaps something newer and better.

But at this resturant, I was not a patron. That would be you.
I was a cook. I cooked the food that made people come to the resturant. I was the billboard, I told people about the resturant so they could come and eat what I cooked. I was the merchandiser, I made shirts for the resturant, so they could come to it, and eat what I had cooked.
I, and the other members stood next to brandon to help him build what he sold. We gave it the advertizing, movies, information, contributions. MMC was a effort by many people. If MMC was worth any amount of money, It was beacause of the amount of traffic it produced. Traffic, which directly cooralates to advertizing on our vehicles (mine for the last 2 1/2 years), and videos we have made (most which I appear and or star in). MMC's value is the effort of more than one person.

Most things are created by a collaborated effort by more than one person...I worked at a company called TAC. I built from scratch TWO whole stockrooms. I instituted almost every rule, boundary, habit, etc that there is at that company. I created OSP processes and Repair Order standards...I ran two stockrooms and Managed Production Control for three years of my life. Three years.
What happened? They hired a douchebag who was a friend of the family to be my supervisor, I got demoted but my responsibilities stayed the same.
I ran that company, I made that company what it is today....or at least I was a BIG part of making it what it is today. However, I am no longer there...guess what?
I moved on. I didnt own that company, I simply put my heart and soul and a LOT of my time into perfecting it for THEM. I cared for it more than I had ever cared for any other job thus far (almost 9 years of working in the 'real' world), but I had to move on. It was not mine, I simply helped them get where they are today...helped THEM perfect THEIR company. In the end I have nothing to do with their decisions or their actions no matter how much I tell myself differently.
....this is the same deal.

Good thing you were dealing with a corporation.
And not your friends.
Keith Brown
06-01-2004, 04:51 PM
Not a corporation.
Friends...some of them VERY GOOD friends....of 8 years.
I have been friends with MOST of them for 8 years, friends that do things outside of the workplace. Not just 'work environment' friends.
You may also want to re-evaluate your life and your friends and relationships. It seems quite evident that you should do that, from an outsider looking that is. From somebody who neither loves you nor hates you.

You on the scale like this |--------------|--------------|
Hate Dont Care Love
Your in the middle?
I would be far over to the right if someone asked me the same question about you.. Anyways,
You contributed to what the business was, but I mean, were you there from the conception? From the beginning? From when it was nothing? I was there just days after MMC started. And hey, guess what, NICK RAINES was there, the SAME day brandon and HIM started MMC. I wonder what he has to say about all of this.

I dont scale my 'caring' for people.
I have met you a handful of times and you have yet to be mean to me...so I have absolutely no problems with you. You are flamboyant, and overexaggerative, and have some 'fib' problems...but you havent been mean to me so I dont hate you by any means.
Yes. I was there when the business was born. I was there when they started the business from day one. I was there when they were turning out less than 500 parts a month until the day I left when we were pushing out over 3000 a month.

Regarding the poll...I said that no, it won't be better under new management, simply because I had grown comfortable in the site we had. You know...the old, "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" adage.
However, now that I think about it...I'm really in no position to say whether or not it'll be better. Neither are any of you. We don't know this new owner. We don't know what changes he has in store for the site. Personally...I like the idea of him cleaning the slate and allowing the members to vote on who we want as administrators. I've said all along that we should have more say in who's got the power to delete our posts and lock our accounts.
So far, with what little I know of him and what he has in store for the site...I can't say I'm all that disappointed. Honestly...I'm not a guy who likes change, so when I get a dose of some I automatically bitch and complain about it. What I'm saying is, maybe I voted too soon. Maybe the rest of you have voted too soon. Give the new owner(s) a chance, and maybe you'll be content with the way things turn out.
Now...regarding Jared's posts. I feel for you, only for the fact that you put so much into this site. I understand what it symbolizes for you. My buddies and I filmed a lot in high school. There were six of us who filmed. It was called the KI Show. The idea spawned from The Tom Green Show. We even drove up to Brenham and stole the "Tom Green St." signs in one skit. We got arrested in another (long story, heh).
Anyway, what I'm saying is that those were some of the best years of my life. Every day after school, driving around and filming whatever we thought would get some laughs. We sold tickets to an airing of our first show (about 2-hours worth of skits after editing). About half of our (relatively small private) high school was there. Even though they got me into a bit of trouble...I wouldn't give up those afternoons of filming for anything in the world.
The problem is, you're correlating this site with all of those hours of filming and goofing around that y'all did. At one time...that would have been understandable. However, this site is now more of a forum than anything else. The video section has slowly ceased to be updated...and the forum membership has grown immensely. In selling this site...Brandon is giving up the reigns to the forums. He's not selling out on the friendship, and hours of fun y'all had while filming...though I can see how you'd view it that way.
I do agree with Jared on one thing though. Brandon might have been the owner of the site...but that was only in the most technical sense of the word. Without Jared, there wouldn't be nearly as many people browsing the site and forums as there currently are. Traffic is what sells a site. Whether you like it or not, Jared is one of the main reasons this site has the traffic it does. To sell something he's put so many hours into creating and expanding without compensating him, or worse...without even running it by him, is really fucked up.
Money talks. I hope you enjoy the cash, Brandon. Just know that the way you went about getting it could have been a lot less fucked up than you made it be.
To the new owner(s)...you spent good money to purchase this site. As such, I'm not really in any position to tell you what to do with your investment. This doesn't mean I won't make a few friendly suggestions. They are: Don't change things too much. Don't change things too quickly. And most importantly...don't forget that without the large numbers of people keeping these forums as active as they are...your investment could turn into the internet equivalent of Enron stock.
You're letting us vote on who we want as moderators and/or administrators. Good first step. Keep things (to a reasonable extent) in the hands of the people who give this site a majority of it's traffic...and you should do well.
Just don't forget that even though you own the place now, you're still a newbie to most of us. ;)

It's funny jared things he deserves to know how much he sold the site for.
Kinda like how he said he was going to tell everyone who stole the shit at the party, and he was going to beat their ass, and everything else that was said.
I'm curious, jared. Who was it? And did you win the fight?
I mean, i remember the whole letting everyone know to ruin their reputation and all of that. You promised that information. And it's still not here.
And you deserve to know something that wasn't offered to you?
Interesting.
Between everyone bickering(sp?) about whats going to happen this site is already going down and down. We might as well not just log on if this is what it is going to come down to.
So Brandon I thought the new owner was going to post by today? Its 4:37 PM and I havent seen nothing but bitching between us over the forums.
I havent been here long, since November of last year and I know how much is put into this site since it was made. So people either need to man up and accept that Brandon althought this might be "a time of investment" things change and we must change with it.
Jared, I dont be to rag on you, but if the videos and such mean so much to you. Talk to the new owner about them and tell him your greivences. Maybe he will take them off, or ask to keep them, hell who knows maybe the videos should just be tossed to the wayside since you were admiment that they belong to the people of MMC, not really the owner (Brandon) so much to be bought and sold.
Brandon, my take is that he offered you something that noone in their right mind wouldnt take. I can understand that in this time and age things of value and sentament are bought and sold like a toy at a toy store. Maybe it was a good thing maybe it wasnt but you did what you thought was best so uits a done deal and I and most of just can only hope it was a right decision.
To everyone else....Since I came to MMC, ive enjoyed pretty much every minute of it. Ive gotten to know people, fight with people, and just plain old shoot the breeze with some people. Jared has always been nice to me and most of you have. I can only think of one person who really annoys me and that Aaron with his stupid remarks about me being emo when Nyeh spercified I was goth. Beyond that shit happen then you deal with it. The new owner if he had been a fan of MMC for so long will not change much for MMC has been a huge success and anyoen to fuck with it would be plain stupid.
Just my two cents...
