You can hurt somebody with a baseball bat with only one arm. If you hold the bat with one arm and have enough force behind it then you can do damage, sure if it is deflected then it would considerably eleviate the damage done but you could still cause damage.

A two handed baseball swing is a whole lot more efficient, especially when swung repeatedly, swinging with one hand will cause the forearm to tighten and the swing speed to slow after a few slices.
