ok guys, what would you think would be a better setup, his stock air box or the filter that is posted with his stock intake pipe

From what I have been told, filters that are just thrown on the end of a intake "pipe" are more for show than go. I'd say fo with something like a K&N in the stock location if he doesn't want to fork out the money for an engineered intake from Injen or AEM. Just save yourself the forty or fifty buks and save up for a CAI.
Edit: I just realized I basically did to my Bronco what you intend Ivan to do. For me it got me some seat of the pants gains most definately, as well as better mpg, but then again my filter was dirty in the stock location in the first place. Also, Broncos are known for having crappy air box deisgns so changing it was favorable in my situation. Maybe he should ask in an Integra forum...?

same here, when i replaced my airbox i found a whole bunch of restrictive tubing in the fenderwell, that was useless just used for sound dampening, afterwards i felt a seat of the pants gain as well
yeah i think asking a integra forum would get better results

Just save up for a CAI.

i think he wants to get rims instead

get you a SRI if you want (short ram intake AEM).
that'll be fine.

it will still give the intake sound, but don't expect a whole lot of performance out of it.
good investment on your part, I believe.

Modified stock airbox + cone filter inside [or even the OEM filter] + aluminum intake arm = greatness.
My ABS modulator will be where the stock airbox goes so I'm going to have to get creative.
I've grown to hate the run of the mill CAI systems.

hmmm
so i tested this cone thing. basically i took the box out and stuck it on the rubber stock hose thing coming from the throttle body. its just hanging there like a limp penis, that breathes hot air. the only difference i noticed was that it pulls slightly better at higher rpms. like when getting on the highway, it takes a little less time to get to 100 for example, past 3500 rpms basically

Butt dyno /= accurate.
You probably just think it pulls better because of the sound :P

maybe, i think it did. it made an eep sound whenver i shifted, and when i redlined it on the highway, it made a loud fffffffffsssshhhhhaaa sound. like it was taking a very deep breath right at 6700 to 7000.
oh well, my stock is back on

Or he noticed a difference because his old filter might have been super dirty. try go getting a new filter for your stock location. That should do the same thing.

The human brain is not an accelerometer. It's got a hard time computing a difference in acceleration. Heck, a power increase wouldn't even be measureable. You're going to see +/- 2/3 HP difference back to back using the same setup on a dyno.
You mean to tell me the human body can accurately judge something like that?
All he's judging is the pitch change.

Good point.

there is no actual pitch, when i step on it, its just a vibration, and all i hear is the eeps, and the sucking of air at redline. it just kinda feels lighter when im accelorating hard. the same way youd just barely be able to tell by having the AC on and then turning it off.
or at least in my car, maybe its just me with the filter, but anyway its not like im buying it

i could tell my car pulled better with the silencer in back when i had the skunk2 catback.
just felt stronger.
i got it dyno'd and it showed +10wtq with the thing in-across the entire power band.
the two stronger runs were not done back to back, so it was good, then weak, then back to good. again.

Ivan has his entire muffler off of his car. Is this robbing him of TQ then?

i dont know if id even want to put it back on if took away horses, unless it was significant (6 hp+)....cept for that whole emmissions thing

thats why i just got a midpipe that bolts up to the stock cat and stock muffler.
get the gains and not overbearing sound. more of an oem tuned exhaust. mellow but not hollow sounding

but i dont have that money, how much would just a midpipe be? wouldnt the muffler still restrict a lot tho?

depends, the ep comes with the ctr muffler so it flows up to 200 hp. not sure about the stock ls motor.
my midpipe cost me 190 bucks shipped. all bolt on.

The muffler does not have anything to do whatsoever with emissions. You can pass just fine without a muffler.
Alex, what exactly do you mean that the muffler can 'flow' 200 hp? I've noticed Maxima guys using this same sort of logic. They put the newer Maxima mufflers on the older cars citing that it can 'flow 220 hp' or whatever. This makes very little logical sense to me. I can see where the idea comes from..but it's really of no merit in the end.
What's the actual CFM rating? It can't possibly be as high as a good aftermarket muffler. Most all relatively quiet mufflers are going to be restrictive while at the same time the real bottleneck isn't even the muffler itself but, rather, the piping.
What I mean is that my stock exhaust can 'flow' any amount of power I can throw at it. It's not just going to be the most efficient [possible] while doing so.
BTW guys...we've got a blowout sale on all Thundermuff systems at Pep Boys :P lolzbeat

Borla is a pretty respectable exhaust company and they are relatively quiet.

as for the cfm rating on my stock muffler, i have no clue.
honda uses it on the k20a and k20a2 ctr versions so it technically shouldn't hinder any performance on my measly k20a3.
just wanted something quiet. less rice-boyish eventhough the skunk2 system i had was nice.
