I do not think you were around, but Mike and JP established that using color as a descriptive word, is racist. Look up a thread called Racism and Shit by the original AssMaster. Next time just say ugly old guy if you do not want to be considered a racist. Ofcourse I am cool with you being a racist, but if you are not you need to change your ways.

I have admitted to being a racist, so I can call Jorge a mexican. If she denys being racist she needs to quit differentating between the two.

if he is with black guys...you say the white guy....and i dont always use color..it depends on if there is a more obvious way to describe the person...if the guy had a large mole..i'da used that

besides...i think it's funny i just stated he was black...but andrew posted that picture...

Lol...I consider it the same as saying..the guy in the red shirt...or blue eyes...color is but a mere characteristic of heredity.

Yeah, but do you always use random physical characteristics to describe people you don't know? I'd bet money that you'd never say, "This green-eyed guy came into work today, ordered soup, and didn't leave a tip." However, you'd have no problem replacing "green-eyed guy" with "black guy." If you used random physical characteristics to describe people all of the time, then it wouldn't be an issue. But when race is the only physical characteristic you use to discern one person from another, you're being racist. Not hateful, just racist.

Oh, and a red shirt isn't a physical characteristic.

Racist means being against a race...i didn't call him any mean name..I stated what he was....I am the farthest thing from racist...and no red shirt isn't a physical characteristic...but a description nonetheless. I see nothing wrong when someone says "the blonde over there"....stuff like that..you use something in a crowd that will distinguish the person...in this case...there was nothing else to compare him to. BTW we were off this subject...that didn't need to be brought up to begin with...and there was no reason for your post....not my fault you were too late to argue.

NatrlBornThrllr

Racist means being against a race...

That's exactly what we're (about to start) debating. My argument is that just because somebody makes a "racist" statement doesn't necessarily mean that they're being hateful or discriminatory. It just means that they're seeing "a person's color," as opposed to "just a person."

i didn't call him any mean name..I stated what he was....

But you went out of your way to point out a characteristic about somebody that you wouldn't otherwise do. I guarantee you that you say "a black guy" or "that black lady" more than you say "a brown-eyed guy" or "that brown-eyed lady." Tell me I'm wrong, and I’ll drop this right here and now.

I'll include a quote here from the previous debate we had on this topic...from my first (extended) post, before everything got muddled:

We don't group people together under one label based on their eye color, do we? "So, I was sitting next to this blue-eyed guy in class today, and this green-eyed guy came up and asked us for our notes." That sounds pretty silly, doesn't it? "So, I was sitting next to this Mexican guy in class today, and this black guy came up and asked us for our notes." That statement doesn't sound the least bit odd. Why? Because we constantly use race as a qualifier. People are people. Each person is individual in nature. Different personalities, different levels of motivation, commitment, friendliness, and anything else you can think of. So, the concept of race (unless it's being used for no reason other than to describe the person's physical attributes), the idea of taking away somebody's individuality based solely on their skin color is, in and of itself, a "racist" concept...whether it's malicious in nature or not.

-JP

Simply put, there was no reason to point out that it was a "black guy" in the photo. None whatsoever. You weren't attempting to point him out in a crowd. You weren't describing him to his future blind date. You simply added that description out of habit. If it had been me in the picture, and you would have said, "that's an ugly blue-eyed dude," people would have tilted their head to the side and wondered, "blue-eyed dude...why'd she call him a blue-eyed dude?" You used the person's skin color to segregate them, and you wouldn't have done that had the "feature" been anything other than skin color. That is racist. It's not malicious. It's not hateful. Forget all of those stigmas that come with the term "racist." You secluded a person based on his skin color, and his skin color only...when you wouldn't have done the same based on eye color, hair color, or any physical other feature. --That. Is. Racist.-- Period.

BTW we were off this subject...that didn't need to be brought up to begin with...and there was no reason for your post....not my fault you were too late to argue.

We're on an internet forum, sweetie...as long as there's a "reply with quote" feature, there's no such thing as a "late post." Plus, I responded 6 and a half hours after your post. I know I’m an internet superstar, but GOSH...don’t expect me to reply to every post within the hour.

is evil (or good or racism) something you are or is it something you do?

Phylecia
03-15-2005, 05:25 PM
No I didn't say I use the blue eye brown eye thing all the time...but I do use hair color almost anytime i describe someone...you can't tell me you've never said something about "the blonde over there"...or "that fat chick" to me...it's the same thing...whether thats wrong or right to you, I see nothing bad about it..and I really wouldn't care if someone said I was white..oh well! And I doubt this dude would have cared either.....his name was fricken gangsta champ...I don't think he'd mind me calling him black.

The fact of the matter is...

This is retarded.

(oh crap..now I must be against retards....kiss my ass)

Frankly I don't like to worry myself much with what offends people when I say things on MMC....as you said..it's an internet forum, and I don't think any of you view me differently because I called the dude a black guy...and if you do, I don't like you...and probably never did.

I think this got read into way too much for no reason at all...and I thought we had dropped it...the whole racist debate has been done..and I don't like to repeat things..so I think we can let it go just this one time.

but first....just to justify that it's ok to use color in a description

here's a quote from you jason

"maybe he sees something wrong with my car that I need to know about," and I pull over. He pulls up behind me. I get out and walk back to his window (don't want anybody walking up to mine, seeing my stockpile of shit, and deciding they want it). It's a black guy, later 20's-early 30's or so, and our conversation goes like this (paraphrased, mostly):

No one saw anything wrong with that...what's the difference?
